Mortality at Myrtle Baby Home prompts state review
Twenty four of fifty nine infants at Myrtle Baby Home on Pawtucket street East Providence died between June 19 and November 16 giving a 96 percent mortality rate among bottle fed inmates. An investigation shows pitiful conditions and carelessness but no criminal acts yet. State Senator William P. Bowen and the State Board of Health seek new legislation to place such homes under state supervision.
