Sunday Night Brawl Leaves Two Shot At Church Street House

A disturbance near the Church Street House Sunday night led to gunfire injuring Joseph Campo in the wrist and Jose B Rodrigues in the head. Six men were detained, four arraigned before Justice Philip Brady on charges of reveling and defacing a building with bail set at 300 each for District Court next Monday. An East Providence car 47-512 fled the scene with several women aboard after four shots were fired.

Warren boys drown after canoe capsizes on river

Walter Boldiger 16 and Max Demovnski 14, residents of Warren, drowned when their canoe capsized near Gerald Hanley’s airplane hangar after leaving Waterman’s wharf at 8 15 am. Manuel Botehlo survived clinging to the canoe for 10 minutes. Rescue efforts and searches have continued for three days with no success and are expected to continue.

Inquest Held Into Death Of 11 Year Old DeFelice

Coroner George V Arnold conducted an inquest into the death of Michael De Felice 11 son of Mr and Mrs Gennaro De Felice who was struck and killed by a car on Wood street near Bradford street on Nov 16. Maximean F Barros 9 Bay Vaewatenue operated the car. Six witnesses testified including Dr John R Bernardo Medical Examiner Dr O R Siegel Chief Huc F Kelles and Patrolman John McMahon. Coroner Arnold submitted the inquest findings to the Attorneys General yesterday.

Boy Injured by Auto in Rainy Street Crossing

Two year old Peter Maturi son of Mr and Mrs Anthony Maturi of 8 Court Street was struck by a passing automobile on High Street Friday afternoon. The umbrella hid him from view as rain fell the car fled the scene and registry number was not obtained. Attended by Dr W F Duffs the boy sustained head and arm injuries and police could not locate the vehicle or driver.

Food Sale By St Michael's Sunday School

Mrs Edward I Brownell's Sunday school class at St Michael's Church held a food and Christmas cards sale from 3 to 6 on Saturday afternoon in the Holmes House. Anthony Egidio Costa of Taunton and Elizabeth Anna Pacheco of this town filed intentions to wed. The pair plan a future marriage as recorded in the local marriage notices.

Bristol Town Team Opens Busy Basketball Season

Bristol town basketball opens Friday at the Naval Armory against Bridgewater A. A. and plans three additional Friday games at home. They beat Walpole on Thanksgiving night, lost 23 to 17 at Plymouth, with Heiget starring for the winners and Coggeshall Bristol’s high scorer. The squad also travels to East Boston to meet the Boston Whirlwinds and faces Walpole, Foxboro or St. Mary’s in later weeks. The manager Shippee aims for first class opponents and strong home crowds.

Fires Destroy Haystack and Tenement in Local Districts

Two fires thought incendiary burned a 10 ton haystack east of Ferry Road near Hope and Wood streets after a late start. William L. McKee of Boston owned the hay. Earlier, an 8:55 a.m. alarm for district 18 reported a blaze at 220 Thames Street in a tenement owned by Antonio Roderiques likely from a defective chimney damaging the upper floors and contents. Water damaged stock and fixtures of a saloon run by Benjamin Barboza on the lower road.

Fifth District Court Hears Multiple Local Cases

In Hastings County's Fifth District Court Judge Frank H Hammill handled several matters. Defendants Daniel W Quinn and others faced gun or murder related charges with pleas and leniency requests. Others, including Manuel Botelho and Maximiano Barros, had cases continued or resolved with fines or continued hearings. Civil and non support actions were also adjourned to later dates.
