Wind Tops Framework at Bristol Boat Yard Sheds Falls Injure Worker
A brisk north wind toppled a large wooden framework at Bristol Craft Corp on Popa Squash shore, injuring Harold F. Greene. The shed was to be 35 feet high and 40 by 70 feet, built on a cement foundation. No others were hurt as ten workers were elsewhere at the yard. The wind also caused a fire at 20 Coggeshall Avenue, burning a mattress while water froze on contact with the cold air. A cancelled Prudence Island ferry trip left three children with a caretaker as it was deemed unsafe to sail. The day brought widespread cold, frozen pipes, and boosted demand for plumbers and garagemen. The weather is improving.
