Bristol's 1936 Fourth of July plans aim to surpass prior observances with a revived historical pageant focused on Rhode Island episodes in line with next year’s Tercentenary Jubilee. Youth seeks spot in Bristol safe from questioning troopers

Manuel Sousa 18 of Catherine Street paid fines totaling 10 dollars and costs in Fifth District Court on two charges driving an improperly registered automobile and operating without a license. He admitted necking with a girl on Colt's Drive on Nov 9 when a State trooper noticed improper plates. Judge O'Donnell urged leniency. Sousa pled not guilty but agreed to the charges and payment.

Civic group plans Christmas basket fund dance

The Bristol Portuguese American Civic League committees plan a benefit dance on December 12 at the Rainbow Room Hotel Belvedere to fund Christmas baskets for local families. Emma Costa chairs the women’s committee with Julia Ferreira Josephine Mello Mary Victoria and others. men’s committee includes Joseph Almedia John Cordeiro Anthony Jaunes and Manuel Sylvia. The women’s branch will elect officers next Thursday at the Belvedere.

Pythian Head Celebrates 70th Birthday in Bristol

Mrs. Ida M. Newman past grand chief of Rhode Island Pythian Sisters marked her 70th birthday at 74 Constitution street Bristol. Born Dec 3 1865 she has lived in Bristol most of her life and is active in First Baptist Church and many fraternal groups. Bristol Troops Honor Court Awards Eight Candidates

Col Merton A Cheesnan presided at Scout hall Friday as the Bristol Troops Boy Scouts of America held the November Court of Honor and Board of Awards. Badges were awarded to members of Troop 1 and Troop 2 for basketry cooking carpentry firemanship swimming personal health handicraft and bookbinding. Clinton Pendleton of Troop 4 was made a first class scout. The December session is set for December 20.
