Blithewold Estate to Join Rhode Island Heritage Foundation
The 35 acre Blithewold estate on Ferry Road, famed for its exotic trees and garden features, will likely be preserved as an arboretum under the Rhode Island Heritage Foundation after the late Mrs Marjorie Lyon's will. Foundation president Alfred Van Liew expects control to pass soon, with guided tours limited to protect delicate specimens and possibly opening the house later. The foundation, chartered in 1956 and funded by gifts, already manages several properties including Hannah Robinson Rock and centers on nature and historic preservation.
