Bristol Veterans Win Senior Open at Bugle and Drum Contest

A large crowd witnessed the Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps contest at Guiteras Field. The Bristol Veterans Bugle and Drum Corps, composed of World War II veterans, won first prize in the senior open class, with Norman Rene earning top honors as drum major. The St. Agnes Fife and Drum Corps led the aggregate scoring, totaling 288.90, narrowly beating Bristol Veterans by about two points.

Trials Of Bristol Theater Cast Goes On After Accident

Anna Kebrek chipped the radius in her left arm during a wheelbarrow race at a weekend outing. The Bristol Community Theater intends to press on with Junior Miss at Guiteras Memorial School Auditorium on September 6 and 7 with younger cast members stepping in for the lead roles.

Edward A. Russo son of Mrs Frank Russo of 187 State Street Bristol received a Bachelor of Philosophy in Education at Providence College 28th Commencement held in Students' Chapel Aquinas Hall. Councils Forming At YMCA For Senior And Teen Groups

YMCA notices announce meetings to create a Senior Council for adult members at 8 p.m. after a common ball game with Frank Margo as temporary chair. A separate Thursday session will form a Teenage Council at 7:30 p.m. with Carmine Cirillo presiding.

Patrolman Bullock Resigns From Bristol Police

A. Michael Bullock has submitted resignation from the Bristol Police Force to Chief Anthony J. Ferrara. The council will consider it at the September 3 meeting with the resignation effective September 1. Bullock joined the force in 1936.

Independent Band And Club Holds Annual Outing

The Portuguese Independent Club and Band held its 27th annual outing at Rego's Farm on Bay View avenue featuring a lobster dinner and a sports program. The married men beat the single men 16 to 10 in softball, while a tug of war ended in a draw.

New Bus Company To Start Operating In Bristol County

The August Bus Company won a petition to run a Bristol County line and will open an office on Bradford Street near Hope Street with service starting Monday September 2. Buses will run hourly with Bates Corner in Barrington as the terminal, under new county legislation after a prior strike and protests. Ernst Voight and Lucien Capone represented the company at the Bristol hearings.

Plans For Community Halloween By Local Legion

The American Legion Halloween Committee met to expand this year’s community celebration. Norman R Gravin said plans include using Guieras Auditorium and more entertainment with door prizes instead of costume contests. Next meeting is September 9 to finalize details.

Injured in Head-On Collision in Fall River

Mrs Elmer Rounds suffered minor injuries in a head-on crash early Sunday in Fall River. She was treated at the hospital and released. Also in the car were Edward and Mrs Silva of Warren and Edward Poirier of Warren.

Mrs. A L Williams of Springfield Mass and Miss Helen Stedman of Brocton Mass visited Mr and Mrs Frank McKeever in Pasadena California living with Robt F Munro family on High Street. Williams is widow of Arthur L Williams former Colt High School principal. Stedman was a former teacher there. Eagles Elect Raymond P McElroy Grand Vice President

Raymond P McElroy of Providence was elected Grand Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles at the group’s annual convention in Columbus Ohio on Saturday He becomes the first New Englander to hold this post in the 46 year history of the Eagles He is known as the state’s chief racing supervisor and has held multiple offices in Providence Aerie 99 and the State Aerie including secretary from 1943 to 1944 and president from 1939 to 1940 He also served as deputy organizer in the Providence area from 1940 to 1943
