A large crowd witnessed the Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps contest at Guiteras Field. The Bristol Veterans Bugle and Drum Corps, composed of World War II veterans, won first prize in the senior open class, with Norman Rene earning top honors as drum major. The St. Agnes Fife and Drum Corps led the aggregate scoring, totaling 288.90, narrowly beating Bristol Veterans by about two points.

Anna Kebrek chipped the radius in her left arm during a wheelbarrow race at a weekend outing. The Bristol Community Theater intends to press on with Junior Miss at Guiteras Memorial School Auditorium on September 6 and 7 with younger cast members stepping in for the lead roles.

The August Bus Company won a petition to run a Bristol County line and will open an office on Bradford Street near Hope Street with service starting Monday September 2. Buses will run hourly with Bates Corner in Barrington as the terminal, under new county legislation after a prior strike and protests.
