Taunton Man Fined For Overspeeding On Hope Street

Fred Carr of Taunton was fined $15 and costs for overspeeding on Hope Street August 10. He pleaded not guilty claiming he drove 20 to 21 mph while officers reported 28 mph. Several related cases were continued or defaulted in the Fifth District Court before Judge Hammill.

Bristol aquatic meet crowns winners in rough harbor conditions

The Bristol Recreation Committee hosted a second series of aquatic events at the harbor by the Community bath house. Inclement weather reduced attendance and entries, causing some events to be omitted. Winners include Charles Winward in the 50 and 100-yard dashes, Mary Barry in the girls 50 and 100, Francis Burke and Donald Morrissey runners up, with Stephen Coggeshall and Angell Sheldon sharing top honors in fancy diving and each earning gold medals.

Metcalf Declares Candidacy for U S Senator Seat

Jesse H. Metcalf announced this morning his bid for United States Senator to succeed the late LeBaron B. Colt for the unexpired term and the six year term starting next March. William C. Pelkey, chairman of the Republican State Central Committee, said Metcalf has the party endorsement.
