Challengers Rally In Extra Innings To Defeat Puniello’s Stadio
In YMCA Softball League playoffs the Challengers finished 8-4 winners over Puniello’s Stadio in eight innings after trailing 4-3 in the seventh. Lou Stanzioni tied the game with a steal home, then the challengers exploded for six runs in the eighth to seal victory. Captain Bob Hayes highlighted defense as Lou Cirilo made key plays for Puniello’s. The second game of the series is Friday with a possible Saturday decider, while the finals begin next Tuesday against Independents. The Bristol champion will face the Warren Industrial league winner for the county title.

Bristol Garden Club Meeting At Blythewold Home
The Bristol Garden Club gathered Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. George Lyon’s Blythewold home on Ferry Road. Members toured grounds, watched a colored film of gardens, and enjoyed a picnic luncheon. The next meeting, hosted by Mrs. Betty Colt Smith, will be at Colt Casino on September 3.

Ascoli’s downed Collins & Aikman 6-4 to earn a first place tie with YMCA as the Twi League regular season ends. Massano yielded six runs in three innings, Willie Alves relieved, and Cordeiro and Butler each had two hits for their teams. The YMCA-Ascoli playoff is set for Monday at 6 at the Common to decide the pennant with a cross-town game to follow.

Scout Drum Corps Tag Days Benefit Bristol Unit
The two day tag sale for the junior drum corps fund, sponsored by Kearney Post No 6, The American Legion, raised funds to send the Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps to the National American Legion convention August 28 29 and 30. Over a score of volunteers canvassed the town, with thanks to all contributors. Cubs Parade Cub Scouts from Bristol Packs head to Warren for the 206th anniversary parade. Pack 14 meets at Scout Hall at noon. First Troop holds a marshmallow roast at Camp King Philip next Monday at 7 30 PM with outdoor activities and water tests.
