Rubino waived examination bound over to Bristol County Grand Jury

Michael Rubino 65 of 7 Usher Avenue waived examination on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon and was bound over to the Bristol County Grand Jury by Judge Benjamin F. Lindemuth. Bail remained at 5000. Rubino allegedly stabbed Joseph Vento 53 of 42 Bourne Street during a street fight on July 25. Vento was represented by Joseph A. Hammill. Rubino represented himself with an interpreter.

Bristol and Warren Firemen Meet for Water Battle

The water battle championship of Bristol County firemen will be decided August 25 on the common. Massasoit Hook and Ladder of Warren, last year’s champions, defend against the Defloire Bnoine and A Doree Casipeay teams of Bristol. A protest by Hampden Meadows against Defiance was denied by the State Firemen's League. Angelo Andrade captains Defiance. Marion Oliver coaches with Eveline Oliver, Manuel Terra and Joseph Andrade on the nozzle.

Mt Carmel Garden Party Opens Parish Fund Drive

Defiance Outing: Benedicts Beat Marital Men In Exhibition

Francis Head and Vernon Gray starred for the Benedicts as Defiance defeated the Married group. Honey Menard led the losers with strong hitting while Capt Raymond S. Brightman Eddie Menard Head and other Benedicts held firm in the field. Umpire Swansea Maderros and Leo Weiss from Brooklyn officiated bases. A mixed All Star outing featured a spaghetti chicken and chourice dinner by Frank Panzarella. Local boys beat Portsmouth nine 10 0 in baseball while M R won the African Golf contest. First Bristol Troop Scouts Plan Camp Takarest Outing

The Bristol Troop of Boy Scouts of America schedules a field day and outing at Camp Takarest tomorrow afternoon and evening with water and athletic events and patrol competition. Plans for fall programs and the final summer meeting are set, overseen by junior officers. The Drum and Bugle Corps meets Thursday at 7 p.m. to plan Brockton Fair and Springfield events. Next week closes Camp Takarest for the season with a Court of Honor and Board of Awards on a September afternoon.

Knights of Columbus Plan Garden Festival in Bristol

Bristol Council No. 369 Knights of Columbus completes plans for a three day garden festival on State street grounds this Thursday to Saturday. Henry J Sylvia Jrodium chairs the event with James F Wylie James F Meiggs Thomas Tobin Robert J Connery Joseph King and J Francis Connell on its committee. A chicken salad supper is set for Thursday night led by Mrs Sara Sweeney, with different menus other evenings.

Girl Wins Prize in Nurses Tag Day Fundraiser

Thirteen year old Margaret Simmons daughter of Mr and Mrs William Simmons 116 State street has been announced as the winner of the pen and pencil set prize offered by the Bristol District Nurses Association for selling the most tags during Saturday’s Tag Day effort. Margaret an eighth grade pupil at St Marys parochial school outpaced many others with 571 in sales while the day’s total tag revenue reached 812 with the general fund far short of the 2000 goal prompting continuation of the campaign.

Annual Prudence Island Concert Delights Island Audience

The Prudence Island Union Church annual concert Saturday night drew a full house. The Nassi Ensemble of Orleans Mass assisted by Mrs Helen Crapo and Todd Farnham performed a varied program with encores. Mrs Crapo aged 76 gave a standout reader turn and the crowd demanded recalls. Farnum popular on the island sang Home on Prudence and Home on the Range with words by Mrs James T MacCaughey of Warren RI.

Town to receive ERA data on relief spending tonight

Raymond Davis auditor of the State Unemployment Relief Commission will present a report on funds already spent by the town and its work relief program at the Town Council meeting. The council requested the report to determine the town’s share before adding new projects including completing the new community athletic field.

The Bristol Yacht Club 121-2 footers ran their weekend series in Fall River under a brisk southerly wind. Fales Moro won honors as the fleet sailed around the Mount Hope bridge north pier and returned, following a Newport Regatta appearance the prior week.
