Baltimore electric light aids deep water tests
Experiments with an electric light in Baltimore showed strong performance for deep water use. Water at about 200 feet depth glowed brightly, creating a striking scene. A movable parabolic reflector behind the light and a brush apparatus on a scow, towed by a tug, allowed distant vessels to be read clearly.

London Zomes Refine Pulse Curve Instrument
The London Zomes note a long standing method to derive curves from living beings using a light lever and a scratched surface, addressing inertia doubts by MM Marcy who miniaturized tracings, used smoked glass, slowed motion and lever speed. The refined, portable microscope compatible device confirms accuracy of pulse curves and graphs blood vibrations in its ducts.

Estes Park to Longmont voyage and mountain majesty
A vivid reminiscence from Paris August 1881 details Estes Park and the Cache La Poudre district, praising Long’s Peak and Elkhorn Lodge. The writer describes six horses, charmed guides, and perilous ascents with panoramic views, then shifts to urban topics, noting hydrophobia cases, immigrant issues in New York, and the American Tailor’s fashion plates. The piece closes with Coney Island observations, a theft-trap anecdote, and news of the Soldiers’ Orphans Home decline.
