Bingo Featured At KofC Carnival In Bristol
The Knights of Columbus carnival opens Wednesday August 26 and runs through August 29 with a canvas bingo event as a main feature. Sunday concert pleases crowd on the Common
A large Sunday crowd gathered on the Common to hear the Portuguese Independent Band under Joseph A Souza. The audience filled benches and surrounding streets as horns sounded to applause and two vocal solos by Trene Hardy and Mrs James Cruz were well received. The Town Council’s new American flag was displayed for the first time, and the event closed with the Star Spangled Banner. Next Sunday the Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps will perform on the Common under Recreation Board sponsorship.

Newport Naval Recruit School Graduates Headed for Fleet Duty
Joseph Santos Jr and Gilbert Ferreira, both 19 and 20, sons of local families, have graduated from the Newport Naval Training Station School of the Recruit. They are on a seven day leave before assignments to a trade school shore station or a Fleet ship. Santos, Colt Memorial High School graduate, Rhode Island Honor Society member and Brightman Memorial Medal recipient, led as Agriculture Club president and three year football captain. Ferreira, noted for plastics work with CC C and formerly a wire inspector at U S Rubber, enlisted earlier this year.
