Four Outings Highlight Weekend Social Events

A Bristol weekend draw surpassed 1000 attendees at each event, with St Elizabeth's Church at Ferrycliffe Farm and Princess Elena Lodge at Leahy Farm drawing the largest crowds. Other groups included St Rita's Girls Club at the new community beach and the Merchants' Bowling League at Bayberry Farm. Athletic contests, concerts by the Portuguese Independent Band and Bristol Musical Club, and various prize events marked the gatherings.

Sons of Italy Outing Draws Wide Attendance Despite Rain

A rain postponement failed to dampen spirits at the Sons of Italy outing as a large crowd attended and called the event an outstanding success despite the weather.

Community Beach Picnic Highlights St Rita Club Event

The St Rita's Club held a picnic at the new Community Beach An grove with chowder at noon. Girls joined the Sons of Italy for an outing nearby. Prize winners included Mary Goldin in wheel barrow and 50 yard dashes by Mary Machena and Rose Matrone. Le Padant won the whist prize. Emmy Delmonica led arrangements with Theresa Turillo, Famio Margo, Rose DiCianni, Beatrice Riccio, and Anne Matrone assisting.

Merchants' Bowling League Holds Annual Outing at Barberry Farm

The Merchants' Bowling League held its annual outing at Barberry farm with fifty members attending. A ball game between married and single men ended with the bachelors leading 30 to 1, followed by a clambake and chowder prepared by Ned Digatt and William Seymour. Providence player Ray Chase, former Brown University captain, wins Bristol County singles title at Excelsior Club defeating William Fischer in three straight sets. Kraus and Malkowski take men's doubles in four sets while Doris Ashcroft claims the women's singles on the Robert W. Nelson Cup after a three-set victory over Alice Rigby. Mixed doubles champions Langdon and Mrs Augustine Shaw prevail in a valiant three-set final as women's doubles finals loom tonight.

Paramode Shoe Co to Hire 300 400 Workers

More than 700 people registered yesterday at the employment head quarters in Eagles hall for Paramode Shoe Company Bristol. Officials say 15 to 20 hand and block cutters start work today and about 50 machine stitchers will be hired tomorrow or Thursday. The plant occupies 28 000 square feet in two buildings of the National India Rubber Co and will employ 300 to 400 at full capacity.

Letters Seek Support for Bristol District Nursing Association

A plea to Bristol residents to join and fund the Bristol District Nursing Association. Last year the nurses made 6574 visits with extensive clinic work including Child Hygiene with 1218 babies, best clinics with 168 patients, and 197 Schick immunizations. Annual expenditures average 4900 with 2000 from town funds, so membership dues and contributions must raise 2000 to continue services.

Bristol 121-2 Footers Compete In Newport Regatta

Thirteen Bristol Yacht Club 121-2 footers sailed in Newport for the Ida Lewis Yacht Club regatta weekend series. Little Rhody led by Sara Tillinghast won the day and held first in the series, finishing 13 seconds ahead of Paul Nicholson's Remora. 5 boats entered but 13 raced, with Gardner's Shrimpo and Rockwell's Phantom absent.
