Bristol Engineer One of Hotel Men In France

United States Army Engineers in the European Theatre ran hotel service for troops at marshaling areas before D-Day. Base Section Headquarters near a former country house managed camps, sanitary facilities, bedding, and food, while camouflaging sites from air observation. Engineers also served as cooks, MPs, and supply personnel, with platoons and regiments handling waterproofing, fire fighting, water supply, and stores. Camp commanders acknowledged their efficient administration, noting the unit’s adaptability and leadership by engineers in charge. The group included Pvt. Louis Amaral and several hometown soldiers from Warren and Barrington.
