UN Victories Cut German Wheat Oil and Cotton Supply
Col Wellington Furlong told Rotary Club that Allied bombing and battlefield wins in Russia and North Africa are depriving Germany of wheat oil and cotton. He cited Tunisia and Algeria’s wheat as enough for over 20 million, and argued North Africa could base future supplies as operations focus on the Mediterranean and Balkan approaches via Turkey. He urged invasion through the Toe and Heel of Italy to protect Europe’s communications and noted Greece and Yugoslavia liberation could boost global morale. Canon Parshley paid tribute to Charles Otten Jr. and a resolutions committee was formed for his family.
