At an adjourned Friday evening meeting the Fourth of July Committee discussed paying a $600 Bristol Fireworks Company bill for the sesqui centennial display. With nine members present, leaders considered delaying payment and looked for a reduced bill while questioning Giorgio's contract and program execution. The motion to table the fireworks question was approved. a future meeting was set.
The New England Transportation Company launched a Sunday bus route linking Fall River to Bristol and intermediate points. Motor coaches depart Fall River Union Coach Terminal at 7:50 am and every two hours until 7:50 pm, returning from Bristol at 9:48 am and every two hours to 5:45 pm. service uses parlor cars on the line with daily operation through Sunday.
Two vehicle crashes occurred near Newport on a Saturday evening and a later night. A motorcyclist named Woalliat Andrews, 27 Clark Street, Newport, crashed at the corner of Hrapre and Jot streets, causing the cycle to be demolished but with no injuries reported. A second collision involved Louis D Lange senine near Beach Terrace Road, with minor damage to both vehicles and no serious injuries.
Cranston Worsted Mills purchased no part of the O Bannon Company assets at West Barrington. The deed was filed Friday with the Barrington Town Clerk. The acquired property will be used for storage of products and supplies and includes the leather division. It spans about eight acres on Bas Spring Avenue and nearby Consolidated Railway tracks, featuring a large brick building and several smaller structures. Purchase price not disclosed.
Mrs Daniel W Knowlton hosted a children's birthday party at Longfield Farm on her estate. Fifteen youngsters aged 13 months to four years attended and enjoyed the grounds and afternoon, followed by supper beneath the tree where Mr and Mrs Knowlton were married.
The Bristol Assessors report for 1926 shows a town tax rate of 2.47 per dollar of real estate and tangible personal property with 40 cents on intangible property. Real estate valuations rose about 20 percent, boosting the total valuation to over 15.5 million dollars and lifting the tax burden, with exemptions for Soldiers and Sailors and various entities reducing net taxes to 322,572.47.
