Two Warren Youths Saved When Skiff Overturns
Three Warren youths sailing a home made skiff near Spar Island in Mt Hope Bay were overturned by wind. Pasquale Costeldi swam two miles to shore to summon help after the others cling to the craft. Rescue workers from Camp Takareest and the U S Volunteer Life Saving Corps retrieved the remaining two, who were then warmed and taken to Woodmere Lodge before being returned home in Warren.

First National Stores opens sixteen new markets since 1933
Sixteen new First National Markets have been opened since January first, bringing total stores in the chain to 409. Ten new markets fall within Somerville and Providence divisions, six in Connecticut. Cities include Lowell, Melrose, Milton, Needham Heights, Somerville, Whitingsville, Cranston, Providence, Warwick, Claremont. Connecticut additions are Hartford three locations, plus Meriden New Canaan and Niantic.

Battery C 243rd Coast Artillery Returns From Camp
Battery C 243rd Coast Artillery men and three officers returned Saturday afternoon from Fort H. G. Wright New York. Fifty six soldiers arrived with tan from two weeks of active campaigning and many honors. They disembarked at the local armory after 1 PM and marched into their home station led by their commander.

Capt A A Moren and Lieuts Garvin and Randall lead Battery C in a strong camp showing. The unit wins the general proficiency trophy with 915 points, garners battalion honors in baseball, volleyball and push ball, and earns the famed PE sleeve symbol for overall excellence. Laval girl scouts and officials celebrated the first annual Goldenrod Troop dance Friday evening at the Bristol Yacht Club with over 150 in attendance. Athletic Field Fund Drive to Launch August Fifteenth
A ten day drive will raise funds for completing the community athletic field behind Guiteras Memorial junior high school. Lions Rotary Bristol Colton alumni and American Legion volunteers will solicit across town with a kickoff dinner for captains. The goal is two thousand dollars. Also reported is progress on the Little World Series between local and Warren teams and a twilight league advisory meeting tonight.

Tax rate for 1933 set near $2.05 in town
Board of Assessors has not filed its valuation report with Town Clerk John W. Church. The 1933 tax rate is expected around $2.05 per $100, about five cents lower than last year’s $2.10. Chairman Robert Newbold said the report is delayed awaiting guidance from the Attorney General’s office.
