Budget Committee Seeks More Info On Two Tax Resolutions
The Fourth of July committee postpones its 8:00 p m meeting to next Friday in Burnside Memorial Building council chambers. Budget chair Frank L Doran says the five member panel will pursue clearer details on two tax assessment resolutions adopted at Monday’s financial town meeting. The group discussed that the $209 601 52 initial appropriations and the grand total of 664 276 72 may not reflect the budget committee’s intent. Tax assessments for June 15 and December 31 were outlined with quarterly levies beginning October 2 1950 and continuing through July 2 1951, and the second levy dates into 1952. A planned re assessment in anticipation of a future budget was noted as required by state law shifting the assessment date to December 31 of the preceding year. Doran and Henry Street planned a separate meeting with Industrial Trust Co. officials, the town’s legal agent.
