Barn Fire Burns Two Horses at Thames Street
A barn owned by C F Gladding on Thames street caught fire shortly after 8 PM on Wednesday. Firemen from King Philip Station extinguished the blaze before total ruin. two horses died, others damaged. Gladding suspects incendiary causes with kerosene used on the building and horses. A prior and subsequent fires affected nearby properties.

Captain Crapo sails nine foot Volunteer to Cuba
Capt Thomas Crapo of New Bedford sets sail for Cuba in a nine foot boat named Volunteer from Providence. After a setback near Pappoosesquaw Point he remained afloat, righted the craft, moored at the public wharf, and continued toward Newport and Cuba aboard the small cedar skiff with a single lateen sail and a religious American Volunteers flag at the mast.
