Information from Bristol confirms eleven men from the town are prisoners of war, with one liberated or having escaped. The list includes Angevine William H. Jr, Bottomley William J., Del Toro Albert, Grimo Pasquale L., Hambrick Henry P., King Clarence, Serbst Charles who escaped, Silvia Sylvester S., Silvia Manuel C., Silvia Sylvester S., Noronha Andrew H., Wilson George H. Added over the weekend is Pfc Andrew J. Meiggs as Missing In Action, bringing the totals to seven Bristol men on the Missing In Action list consisting of Boynton John, Hibbert Alan, Howe Arthur W. III, Leahy Edward L. Jr., McCann Robert M., Meiggs Andrew J., Paiva Manuel Jr. If others should be included, residents are asked to report them for the Town Honor Roll.

A letter from a British chaplain dated January 22 1945 informs Miss Mary Grimo that her brother Pfc Pasquale L Grimo is a prisoner of war in Germany at Stalag XI b after being slightly wounded and ill in December. Grimo, son of Michael Grimo of Usher Avenue, served in a field artillery battalion overseas over a year and previously worked for U S Rubber and Bristol Senior High School.

Clothing Collection Pick Up Tour Cancelled
The United Nations Clothing Collection committee cancels the upcoming Sunday pick up tour as results so far are strong. About six to seven tons have been collected including around one ton from St. Mary's parishioners. Contributions will continue to be accepted at St Elizabeth's Church and Collins and Aikman Corp. The center depot at Franklin and Hope streets remains open for drop offs or private pickup if needed.

Old Bristol Burial Ground Told In Local History Notes
In 1864 the first meeting house stood where the Court House now sits and earlier graves lay behind it. Professor Munro’s accounts trace burials on the Common from 1718, with stones moved to the East Burial Ground when the church moved in 1817. The Southeast Common was a designated burying ground by 1737, later linked to the Old Pest House on the Common. A 1801 artillery salute and a gunner’s fatal injury ended with burial in the Common Cemetery.
