Weekend Gardener Red Raspberry Guide for Home Plots
Weekend Gardener reviews red raspberry planting for home gardens. It recommends about 50 plants for a family, notes a small first crop in year two with full production later, and describes row and hill spacing and cane development rules.
Planting and Caring for Raspberry Canes and Varieties
The guide advises thinning bearing canes to five inches apart, deep soil prep, and generous manure plus 55-10-10 fertilizer to achieve a soil pH around 6.0. Set plants early, prune tops to an inch, and avoid fruiting in year one to protect roots. Varieties include Latham Taylor and Marcy with mentions of Indian Summer and September Larham. A bulletin FB 887 is available on request.
