Dixon Corp Spreads Pennies to Fight Recession

About 600000 pennies showered on over 100 Dixon Corp employees at a Burnside Street meeting as president Robert Rulon Miller urged spending in Bristol and Rhode Island. He cited record first quarter earnings and asked workers to match the giveaway by buying locally, donating to charities, or clothing purchases while supporting textile and plastics interests.

Bayside Plat road linking plan approved by Town Council

The council approved adding a new entrance to Bayside Shores Plat by connecting Wayland Rd to Westwood Rd at a cost of 1200 dollars and possibly condemning 30 by 50 land. Funds would come from the contingency, with a northerly Westwood Rd extension and Wayland Rd widening also included. A zoning change for land on Metacom Ave was approved for industrial zoning with a buffer, and the purchase of a dexigraph for 3040.62 was authorized.

Brightman to push Bristol Harbor line relocation in Senate

Senator Gladys M. Brightman plans to file a resolution authorizing the Division of Harbors and Rivers to move Bristol Harbor line about 170 feet west from the 1930 line. The shift would permit finger piers off the state wharf at Church Street, with prior funding of 50 000 dollars in 1956 for pier work.

Veterans Rally Warns of Threat to Benefits From Small Segment

More than 200 veterans gathered at the Rhode Island armory to hear Alberto Russo and four major veterans leaders warn that benefits could be cut if the public or lawmakers turn away from protecting veteran rights.
