The Bristol Budget Committee announces it will continue only if taxpayers form a Taxpayers Association or endorse written ballots on controversial issues at town meeting. The group rejects resignation rumors and seeks clear public backing for its financial oversight role.
The Bristol Teachers Association approved endorsement of the Vanderbilt bill for extra state aid to schools and will dispatch communications to their three Assembly representatives Senator L H Callan and Representatives Alexander G Fales and Thomas H Byrnes. Tea followed the meeting hosted by Mrs Mary Mancini and others. Daniel G Aldrich head of Sockanoset School for Boys spoke on united efforts to fight delinquency.
Joseph Perry aged 26 was found dead by his wife Anne this morning at their home 155 Mt Hope avenue. Heart failure is believed to be the cause of the sudden death.
The Namquit Bowling League closed its first season with a turkey dinner and prize distribution at Odd Fellows Hall. President John Foxy Marshall welcomed attendees and Albert Johnson led the program featuring Tulio Gasperini accordion solos, the Brito twins tap dancing and singing, Friskella’s sleight of hand, and moving pictures by Frank Remieres.
The Bristol Garden Club moves to plant over 100 trees through its Buy A Tree Campaign. Tree Warden Joseph C. Kinder supervises planting with funds raised to about 252.10 dollars. Contributions come from individuals and groups including the Bristol Garden Club and Excelsior Tennis Club, among others.
Rehearsals are nearing completion for the three act comedy Paddy Makes Things Hum to be presented by the St Rita’s Girls Club of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on April 27. In the Guiteras Memoral junior high school auditorium Mrs Vasta La R Ruggiero directs the cast including Mary Rucci Theresa Turillo Emily Delmon ica Mary Turillo Josephine Matur Rose DiCianni Valentino Allesandro Elmer DuPont Ralph DeLeo and Louis Goghia. Joseph F Pannone stage manages the production with scenic effects by local boys under the director. Erasimo Mancini will be master of ceremonies with a nine act intermission between the second and third acts.
Bristol theatergoers will see accordionist Tulio Gasperrini among 26 performers in a radio entertainment program by Buddy and His Gang at the Guiteras auditorium Friday night. Freddie Brown will serve as master of ceremonies.
Three year old Edmund Monteiro died after a heavy coal truck backed up in Bristol. The vehicle, driven by his father Mario Monteiro, pinned the boy beneath the rear wheel as three youngsters clung to the truck’s tailboard. Witnesses warned them to step away, but they did not move. Edmund died shortly after reaching Dr A F D’Angelo’s office.
The Collins & Aikman Girls Club plans an entertainment and dance in Grand Army Hall on Friday. Pearl Dion, a Providence juvenile singer, will perform songs, with a comedy sketch by Mary Santo Irene Lewis Anna Ethier Katherine St Angelo Lena Turillo Marjorie Burgess Lillian Pasquarelli Mav Newman. The club also outlines its May 12 banquet with Mrs John Joseph chairing the committee and others including Helena Gilroy Bridget Nastri Lillian Pasquarelli Marv Salzano Harriet Kinder Eliza Lepper.
The Reynolds School Nature Club led by Mrs Catherine Munroe went on their first hike last Wednesday. They reached the Mt Hope Bridge and enjoyed basket lunches before playing games. Bad weather reduced bird sightings.
The First Bristol Troop of Boy Scouts of America schedules a Penny Bazaar this Saturday in Eagles Hall Makowsky Building with parades at 1 and 6 pm and events for youth and adults. Contests include balloon blowing harmonica and pop drinking with prizes for top three. proceeds fund neckerchiefs and camping gear.

About 75 members of the Tony's Wedding cast and chorus attended a social and dance at Eagles hall on Hope Street hosted by the Olympian Club. Cast members performed songs and recitations while the Collegians provided music and the arrangements committee served refreshments.
