Reliance Defender Launch At Herreshoff South Shop In Bristol
The Reliance, Herreshoff’s sixth cup defender, was launched Saturday evening from the south shop with a crowd of thousands watching along Hope street and at the Gov. Bourn grounds. Dignitaries, naval officers, yacht club members, and Iselin family guests attended as Nora Iselin christened the yacht with a silver hammer, champagne spray, and cheers. The event drew large crowds from factories and rail lines, with reports of watchful photographers and a festive display of flags, but minor thefts and a gambling disruption were promptly halted.
