Work Begins On Permanent Street Paving
The Holmes Brothers Construction Co started permanent patching on Wood Street between Roma Street and Bay View Avenue to finish paving streets torn up for the sewer overhaul project. Hugh Holmes said the crew will move to Bay View Avenue after Wood Street and the job should take about 10 days. The Holmes Bros undertook the task as a sub contract from Lauranger and Piateilli, who did the initial sewer work, and kept streets in temporary repair over the winter.

Local Woman Retires As Union Veteran Head
Miss Pauline Brelsford retired as president of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War Department of Rhode Island at the 26th annual convention in Providence. She highlighted a project of 75 hand made chair covers for the Rhode Island Veterans Home and supported plans for new buildings and equipment. A state and American flag were given to the John P Reynolds School of Bristol, and a memorial flag was presented to the Marigold Troop of Bristol for Lt Walter A Brelsford killed in World War II. A memory banquet followed with Rev Frederick Driftmier as speaker.
