Cancer fund drive set at 1700 for Bristol

Bristol is assigned a 1700 goal by the R I Cancer Society for April’s drive. A one day canvass on D Day Saturday April 18 will be led by district captains from 930 am to noon. A rally at the YMCA April 17 will feature Clarence H Gifford and Robert F Murphy. Volunteers receive work kits and refreshments while funds aid cancer research.

Rev Driftmier To Show Films At Missionary Meeting

Girl Scouts Win General Assembly Resolution in Bristol

The Bristol Girl Scout council receives a General Assembly resolution congratulating its 41st anniversary. Secretary of State Armand Cote forwarded the copy after Gov. Noting approval. The resolution lauds Girl Scouts as a nonsectarian nonpolitical group aiding girls in citizenship and character. Mrs. Brightman introduced the measure and has long served as an associate member.

Bay Victim Pacheco Missing After Mt Hope Bridge Fall

Rescue efforts continued for Antonio S. Pacheco 56 of 28 Peck Avenue who fell from a Mt. Hope Bridge pier into a strong current and is presumed drowned. Bristol fishermen saw his skiff go behind the pier then empty with a possible figure in the water. Police, rescue squads, Coast Guard, and state agencies searched from evening into morning as lights scanned both sides of the bridge. Pacheco leaves a wife a daughter a son a sister and five grandchildren with relatives in the Azores.

Langello Serves On Roosevelt In Amphibious Exercise

The attack carrier USS Frank lin D. Roosevelt joins the second phase of an amphibious training exercise from the Caribbean to North Carolina. Carmine Jetellop, a Bristol resident, serves aboard. About 25,000 sailors and 36,000 Marines participate with 150 ships. A full-scale assault at Paney Beach, N C, will climax maneuvers in early April.
