Attempt to Kidnap Woman Thrown From Carriage

A Fall River woman, Jane Hughes, attempted to kidnap an adopted Taunton child, was thrown from a broken carriage, and seriously injured. She secured another carriage to flee toward Taunton Green but was stopped and the child recovered by Mr Damon of Westfield. The boy was Mary Kelley’s child of Taunton, now deceased, and related to Hughes.

Man Drowns After Attempted Jump From Williamsburg Ferry

Early today around 6 o clock Brien McGinnis tried to jump aboard the Williamsburg ferry at Peckslip but fell and struck his chest on the guard. He disappeared under the water when the ship moved and was recovered at 8:30. Despite efforts to resuscitate, he died. His brother present took charge of the body. McGinnis was a bricklayer by trade.

New York dispatch reports the brig George Henry from Chagres has been boarded at sea with all hands dead. Captain Renney, once at Aspinwall, is suspected of desertion. the ship was headed for a U S port when the incident occurred.
