Bristol newspaper notes advertising terms and a violent street incident on Locust street. Officers C Fine and S Melvin intervened in a dispute between a furniture dealer and a customer. Michael Curran attacked Melvin with a bowie knife, injuring him fatally before Curran was captured and jailed.
The present tax rate in Boston is four dollars and forty cents per thousand of assessed value. Total valuation of real and personal estates is about 300000 dollars lower than in the previous year.
The British militia corps uniforms under the recent act feature scarlet coats with yellow collars and cuffs. A single dark Jeaden row of buttons closes to the neck and a bob tail is noted, with a crown crest atop the front.
A Fall River woman, Jane Hughes, attempted to kidnap an adopted Taunton child, was thrown from a broken carriage, and seriously injured. She secured another carriage to flee toward Taunton Green but was stopped and the child recovered by Mr Damon of Westfield. The boy was Mary Kelley’s child of Taunton, now deceased, and related to Hughes.
Early today around 6 o clock Brien McGinnis tried to jump aboard the Williamsburg ferry at Peckslip but fell and struck his chest on the guard. He disappeared under the water when the ship moved and was recovered at 8:30. Despite efforts to resuscitate, he died. His brother present took charge of the body. McGinnis was a bricklayer by trade.
New York dispatch reports the brig George Henry from Chagres has been boarded at sea with all hands dead. Captain Renney, once at Aspinwall, is suspected of desertion. the ship was headed for a U S port when the incident occurred.
James Male pursued his children with a gun in W Allenhsay Gon Md. He turned on his wife who defended herself with an axe, wounding him. The man was tried and acquitted on grounds of justifiable homicide.
In New York Thomas Clark entered a house and encountered a woman alone. He allegedly attempted improper contact, receiving a severe kick that caused his death. The woman was arrested for manslaughter but discharged after a brief examination.
In West Bridgewater an Irishman declared he would sell liquor despite the law and was arrested on three complaints. He was found guilty in the common pleas court.
The New Par mer reports a single seed producing a barley stool with thirteen inch circumference roots, six foot stalks, one hundred twelve stems, one hundred heads and over fourteen thousand kernels. It cites water supply from a spring and notes multiple unrelated items including a Cincinnati death from lockjaw and a whiskey salvage anecdote.
