From the London Gazette dated Feb 6 and Feb 7 at Kew, brief updates report the Majesty slept four and a half hours, was unquiet in the morning, then calmer overnight and had a very good night, remaining composed this morning. The notes reflect a quiet, orderly state over the reported period.
Mr Pitt moved for the second reading of the bill to secure royal authority during the king’s illness, while Mr Burke assailed its provisions as a dangerous transfer of power. He warned the measure erodes the executive’s prerogatives, placing royal patronage under ministerial control and risking a constitutional crisis. The house paused as Burke likened the bill to a treacherous division of government. The debate concluded with a motion to commit the bill to a committee of the whole house, to be taken up next day.
London dispatch reports the king yesterday spent more than two hours walking in Kew gardens with Dr Wallis and his son. On return to the Palace he appeared very comfortable and conversed with the Princesses with perfect recollection. The king shaved his face and head on Wednesday and seemed as collected as ever.
