In Bristol on December 15 1789 the Council warns inhabitants and others liable to Parliament’s order to scrape wipe and cleanse the raised footway before their doors each morning between eight and ten oclock except Sundays. Defaulters will be prosecuted and penalties will be levied upon their goods according to the act.
