Royal appointments and congratulations noted in London Gazette

War Office announces Colonel Edward, Prince of Wales, is named Colonel of the 7th Foot, replacing the Hon. Major General Gordon. Major Robert Hobart is appointed chief secretary to the Lord Lieutenant, succeeding Alleyne Fitz Herbert who resigns. The Gazette records 42 congratulatory addresses to the King and 16 to the Queen, including five from Ireland.

Royal procession to St Pauls for the Thankgiving Day

London April 10 111 Their Majesties to depart from St James's on Thursday 23 at nine am with horse guards at seven to escort to St Pauls. The state coach and carriages to be adorned for a grand public procession in thanksgiving for the King's recovery. Prince of Wales plans to visit St Pauls. thousands expected in town as citizens and foreign nobles book apartments to witness the event. Medals planned. City Marshals and constables mobilized to ensure orderly dispersal and clear roads. inspectors bar construction to view the procession and authorities restrict new buildings nearby. A Windsor council meet reports the King’s health improving and public spirits high.

In a March 1789 notice T W Dyer seeks votes to succeed R Griffiths as Apothecary to the Bristol Infirmary. He pledges diligent duty and asks for support. A separate note from Wm Dyer commends Mr K W Dyer’s professional skill and moral character. Also a housing ad invites inquiries about a ready furnished house with garden.

Auction note from Bristol dated April 4 1789 announces the sale of the Golden Heart Inn and adjoining 27 acres of meadow land in Tmton Somerset.
