A May 23 frost caused heavy damage across crops in Brimfield with oats wheat butter eggs and hogs listed per farm. The community reported wind storms, deliveries of flour yeast and pills, a tin pan concert, a festival upcoming, and a planned Chautauqua with residents awaiting warmer weather.
A short appreciation message thanks Springfield friends for their support and memories. The writer expresses gratitude for the care shown and notes that small gestures help reconnect with loved ones.
A certificate of approval was granted for a private use landing area on the Lester Kingdon farm near Srim field. The site serves private use by the certificate nosiar, and is among over 400 such private use landings in use in Dunos.
Four local women attended the tenth annual convent held in Moline on May 18. Delegates heard reports on year long projects including a $4500 contribution toward a chapel for Grace Lutheran Church in Marquette Heights and $4500 for a Deaf Chapel in Jacksonville. The convention theme was Pray for Progress with chief speaker Mrs. Mabel Wamke of Des Plaines addressing the gathering.
The May event showcased many talented members and a notable duet. Sisters Maher and others thanked donors for bake sale support boosting the home ec fund while calls went out for upcoming sewings and kitchen items.
Detroit Michigan couple Bar and Asira Lawrence K Casey announce the engagement of their daughter Nancy Rath to Edward Eugene Duffy son of Mr and Mrs Eamen Daffy. The wedding will take place in November. Mrs Grery and Mr Daffy are both May graduates of dsimfiela High school.
Laura and Fred Jones spent Sunday in Abingdon with relatives. Ada Koeer dined with Mrs Jennie Barrett. David Smith of Princeville visited his sister Mire Jennie Barrett Friday afternoon. Fred Jones returned from a ten day vacation in St. Petersburg Florida. Elmer Miles of Tremont, Mars Wiley Tidd and Sam Tidd of Elmwood called on Mrs Barrett Sunday. Dick Noland, U. of Trhinots student, weekends with Paul and Mrs Noland. Mr and Mrs Wm Jones and son dined with Mrs Villa Jones and Judy in Elmwood. Marvy Porgy and David Underwood of Peoria stayed with grandparents Tom Miller. Zod Et Corliss Larsen Jr. returned from Japan on a three day furlough with family. A Rollins and Mrs Rollins visited Marseilles for a day with Kirby Todd family.
French Grove residents host visitors from Peoria Bloomington Pittsburg and other towns. Relatives and friends attend the Clark home gatherings. The French Grove Improvement Society schedules a May meeting with guest speaker Mrs Charles Hayward from India and a song selection on a personal theme.
The Legion Auxiliary holds a regular meeting on Thursday May 26 at 2 pm CST. Memorial Day on May 30 honors those who died in service. Gold Star Month observances include honoring Gold Star Mothers with a 2:30 pm DST pot luck lunch before the May 26 meeting.
Notice announces a tolerative budget and appropriation ordinance for road and bridge funds for Brimfield Illinois. Public inspection begins May 26 1955 at 9:00 a.m. at the Village Hall. A public hearing is set for June 27 1955 at 7:30 p.m. at Brimfield Village Hall with final action by the Highway Commission at 8:30 p.m. CDT that same day. Mr and Mrs John Lutolph of Kickapoo announce the engagement of their daughter Miss Helen Ludolph to Robert Catton son of Mr and Mrs Everett Catton of Brimfield. Miss Ludolph a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady works at the Jefferson Trust and Savings Bank. Catton a Brimfield High School alumnus recently returned from two years service in the U S Navy and is employed at Caterpillar Tranciorco. No wedding date has been set.
Brimifelu merchants sponsor free movie showings on May 21 starting Saturday. Don Bride and W F Garding operate the event with new equipment. Band music will play before the film begins.
The Brimfield H S holds its commencement program at 8 P M in the school gym with preservice, salutatory by Roger Best and Charlie Cluskey, and program pieces including Toccata in D Minor. Reverend Albrecht offers benedictions. Lee Atwater, Supt., Kenneth Hamilton, Board president, preside.
Caulkins daughter Miss Sara Rath Caulkins wed Charlies G Hornberger son of Prescott residents on Saturday May 1 at 4 pm in First Methodist Church Prescott Arizona. Rev W F Gaubins assisted with prayers and scripture along with Rev J W Reynolds Rev Donald Mackay and Mrs Jesse Fisk. Bride wore heirloom white satin gown with seed pearls and a pearl tiara. She carried white orchids and sweet peas. Maid of honor Naom Garskins wore pink organdy with pink carnation bouquet. Bridesmaids Jeanne Polson Nance Smith and Marlene Shelley wore blue green dresses carrying pink carnations. Best man Rev Lloye Garringer. Guests Wesley and Clarence Morgan. Reception followed by church parlors and South trip. Mrs Hornberger to return to Bradley University for master’s in speech. groom serving in Submarine Division and to join her in Rawah after trip.
The Brimfield school schedules a baccalaureate service in the school gym on May 22 with Peggy Babcock directing and Rev L Pearce delivering the sermon. Graduation for seniors is set for Friday May 27 at Gounad om with eighth grade exercises May 31 at 8 pm, both on Daylight Saving Time.
The American Legion committees work out plans for Memorial Day. The program is set for Monday May 3 at 1 o clock at the cemetery. The pastor of the Methodist Church, Wm. F. Caulzins, will give the address.
Band practice scheduled for Friday at 7:30 PM at the village ball location. The event invites musicians to gather for rehearsal and coordination ahead of upcoming performances.
