Weather and harvest notes from Brimfield May 1885

A May 23 frost caused heavy damage across crops in Brimfield with oats wheat butter eggs and hogs listed per farm. The community reported wind storms, deliveries of flour yeast and pills, a tin pan concert, a festival upcoming, and a planned Chautauqua with residents awaiting warmer weather.

A certificate of approval was granted for a private use landing area on the Lester Kingdon farm near Srim field. The site serves private use by the certificate nosiar, and is among over 400 such private use landings in use in Dunos.

Delegates Attend Tenth Annual Convent In Moline

Four local women attended the tenth annual convent held in Moline on May 18. Delegates heard reports on year long projects including a $4500 contribution toward a chapel for Grace Lutheran Church in Marquette Heights and $4500 for a Deaf Chapel in Jacksonville. The convention theme was Pray for Progress with chief speaker Mrs. Mabel Wamke of Des Plaines addressing the gathering.

May gathering boosts talent and plans for future drive

The May event showcased many talented members and a notable duet. Sisters Maher and others thanked donors for bake sale support boosting the home ec fund while calls went out for upcoming sewings and kitchen items.

Laura and Fred Jones spent Sunday in Abingdon with relatives. Ada Koeer dined with Mrs Jennie Barrett. David Smith of Princeville visited his sister Mire Jennie Barrett Friday afternoon. Caulkins Hornberger wedding in Prescott Arizona First Methodist

Caulkins daughter Miss Sara Rath Caulkins wed Charlies G Hornberger son of Prescott residents on Saturday May 1 at 4 pm in First Methodist Church Prescott Arizona. Baccalaureate Service and Graduation Dates Held in Brimfield

The Brimfield school schedules a baccalaureate service in the school gym on May 22 with Peggy Babcock directing and Rev L Pearce delivering the sermon. Graduation for seniors is set for Friday May 27 at Gounad om with eighth grade exercises May 31 at 8 pm, both on Daylight Saving Time.
