Southport Social Notes Highlight Local Visits and Picnic

Henry Kramer was a caller in South port Sunday. Several families including the Martzlus and Wickwires visited friends in Elmwood Princeville and Farmington. A small cyclone damaged Evergreen Beal’s barn roof. The Southport school closed with a record picnic hosting 58 guests and generous baskets. J R Clark was ill but remembered at the event.

A 4-H club meeting will organize Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at Edna Holmes home in Brimfeld. Girls aged 10 to 20 are invited to join and assist with the organization. Names must be in office by May 15.

Brimfield High entries excel at the sectional commercial contests in Kewanee on April 29. The bookkeeping team Susan Sollenberger Lyle Talmage and Melvin McCoy won second place with Susan earning the gold for high paper in bookkeeping. The typing team Ruth Mendenhall Mildred Blottman and Bernice Purcell also took second, with Bernice receiving silver for high paper in typing.

Gas Prices Cut Across Stations After Oil Adjustments

Gas prices were reduced by 2.2 to 3 cents per gallon at most stations on Monday. Frances Rockwell, longtime Brimfield High English instructor, has accepted a teaching post for Freshman and Junior English at Morrison High School in Morrison Illinois. Morrison, White side County seat on the Lincoln Highway, enrolls several hundred students with a nine member faculty. Friends here cheer her advancement and wish continued success in her new role.
