Rev Clingan of Elmwood will preach at the Presbyterian Church each Sunday afternoon during the summer. Heavy rains this week caused damage. May 4 1945 grain prices show corn 108 oats 68 wheat 159 beans 308 hogs 1480.

Mrs Wm Jones and Tomme and Mrs Tom Miller visited Galesburg Saturday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Gerald Webster of La Fayette spent Saturday evening with Mr and Mrs Don Webster. Mrs Johonie Rollins and others visited Galesburg Wednesday. Mr and Mrs R A Rollins and family were guests of Mr and Mrs Rem Rollin in Morton Wednesday.
French Grove residents visited Gilson and attended church in Peoria with the Methodist School of Nursing Chorus. The French Grove Improvement Society met at Verne Shaffer’s home, voting a five dollar donation to the Grippled Children’s fund and noting active roll call.
The village hall hosts a band practice Friday at 7 30 PM. Musicians gather for rehearsal in preparation for upcoming performances.
The Legion Auxiliary held its final sewing day of spring on April 6 producing 58 pounds of carpet rags. The rags were sent to Jacksonville State hospital where disabled veterans weave them into rags sold as veteran craft articles. Acknowledgment is given to home sewers unable to attend meetings. Mr Lee Pacey accepts orders for Coolie recipe books featuring many new and delete cookies for handy picoio desserts.
A voice from Hickory Grove condemns government intrusion in business and laments rising monthly welfare checks from 4 800 000 ten years ago to 20 000 008 today. The author jokes about Uncle Sam as the nation’s dominant figure in many sectors and warns of widening control and looming payroll crises.
Funeral services for John Heinz Sr were held Friday at St Marys Church in Bickapoo with Rev Arguat Mey officiating. Burial followed at St Marys Cemetery. Survivors include wife Barbara Bratcher Heinz nine children and 19 grandchildren. The John Heinzer family thanks friends for condolences.
Wills Brown known as Tiny Brown and three time consecutive Illinois Roadeo winner is promoted to Director of Safety and Operations at Central Transfer Co. Keith Cecil, general manager, cites company growth and the recent acquisition of Feme Transfer and Freight as driving the new post. Brown, a 16 year accident-free professional driver, has served Central since starting in Peoria and later as driver-manager in Galesburg.
Dr Donald Cluskey arrived from San Diego California Saturday and stayed with his parents Mr and Mrs Joan Cluskey overnight in Kansas City and St Louis before leaving Sunday to join his wife and young son at Kankakee with Mrs Gadbois and her parents. He achieved the rank of Lit Commander last July and will reenter private practice after military duty.

Mrs J D Best visited Soampaign as guest of her son Jona at the Zea Pie frater nity house. The weekend featured the Stm. Union Spring Musical Good Ny Wa and an open house at Bradley University Lamb a Gni A'pba fraternal to wih her gon Gary. Mrs Best also attended a Mother's Day luncheon on campus.
