The German Methodist Church east of town was destroyed by fire.

Justice Stone Re-elected in Local Judicial Race

In Brimfield township 175 ballots were cast for the judicial election. Clyde E. Stove received 106 votes and Josef T Skinner 69. Stone carried eight counties with a district margin of 8067. Bureau and Putnam favored Skinner. Peoria and Knox counties backed Stone with sizable margins.

Cantata practice and county event announced

The Cantata group will rehearse Friday June 5 at 7 30 p m in the Farm Bureau Building. A county Cantata will be presented Friday July 10 at the Christian Church Peoria opposite the Farm Bureau Building. The Peoria County Home Bureau Annual Meeting is planned for Thursday June 18 at the W C A Peoria with a noon luncheon. All are invited. Miss Christie Hepler will be away on county vacation until Friday June 5.

The Rev Edward G Sandmeyer pastor of First Methodist Episcopal church Springfield IL was named successor to Dr William E Shaw as superintendent of the Peoria District of the Methodist Episcopal church Announcement came Monday from Bishop Ernest Lyon Waldorf Dr Shaw was named executive secretary of the boards foreign missions at the recent general conference in Columbus OH He will assume duties around June 10 at New York offices and begin work as superintendent in January He arrived in Peoria yesterday to make arrangements for a home.

Commencement Enjoyed By Large Crowd

A crowded auditorium witnessed the commencement exercises last Thursday evening with an attractively decorated stage in pink and green. Dr Hodgson of Moline gave the class excellent advice and engaged the group with a very fine address.

Memorial Day Observance Honors Civil War Veteran

Memorial Day program honored surviving Civil War veteran P. Bower who occupied a place of honor. Father Harrison gave the address as announced. A school band led the cemetery march and services were held for the fallen soldiers. Graves were decorated by schoolchildren with a committee from the W R C and American Legion directing.

Hr Fletcher 82 died Tuesday morning after two week illness. Services at 2 o'clock Wednesday at Kidd chapel in Toulon. Born Detroit June 24 1854. Married Jessie May Der September 20 1892 Brimfield. Survived by four daughters Mabel Jackson Ruth Branier Violet Edwards Licy Cantwell. Last residence Toulon for 32 years. Wife died 1936.

Harvey Young Wins Knox College Faculty Scholarship

James Harvey Young of Galesburg earns the Knox college faculty scholarship for the coming year. The award honors scholastic achievement and extracurriculars, selected by Knox faculty, with the 1922 endowment funding the program. Young is active in Knox plays, the Knox Student, the Knox French club, and has high academic honors.
