Haying season nears and safety director C M Seagraves of the Illinois Agricultural Association urges checking haying gear. Replace weathered hay ropes, cut out worn spots, test blocks, and inspect single and double trees. Ensure hay forks harness and double trees are free from defects and fix holes in the floc before a fall.
Mrs Edmund Lottman expresses gratitude for cards flowers candy and other expressions of sympathy during her hospital stay.

Miss Margaret Calhoun, previously at Oneida high school, will teach English here. Her Evanston home and Northwestern University master’s degree are noted. Miss Kathryn Lindstrom of Wataga will teach music in high and grade schools next year, a Knox College graduate with musical tailing and three years at Williamste in.
Care and caution can avert wildfires as dry vacant lots and woodlands become tinder. Owners should keep property cleared and up to date, never discard cigarettes or leave fires unattended, and always extinguish with water and dirt. Fire losses harm economies, kill lives, and are often preventable through prudent action.

Miss Olive Buck traveled from Galesburg on Friday to witness the graduation of her nephew, Thomas Day.
French Grove residents and relatives visited kin across Iowa and Illinois. Albert Maher and family stayed with Erman Kartley. Mrs Varney Jacobs and Tremont visitors were with Miss Barbara Smith. A R Moore home hosted Mollie Day and Laura Martz of St. Louis. Cemetery upkeep noted. Lilybel Steagel attended La Rose graduation.
A quiet celebration on May 28 honored Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Clute on their 54 years of marriage. Their children Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wellbrook and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Smith of Peoria attended the observance at the couple’s home.
A Sunday family party at the home of Mr and Mrs Irving Bragg honors the anniversary of Mr and Mrs Russell Bragg. Attending are Mr and Mrs Russell Bragg, Mr and Mrs Robert Bragg and Miriam, Mr and Mrs Edwin Bragg of Louisville Ky, Mrs James Allen and Sandra Kay of Toulon, Mr and Mrs Fritz Kneer of Peoria, Mr Neva Riel of Laura, Ted, John, Eileen, Bernice and Ruth Bragg.
Brimfield Fire Co outlines a community July 4 celebration in the school park with a picnic, outdoor platform dance, ball games, music, and a large fireworks display funded by local citizens pooling their funds for the display.
The French Grove Festival will be held at the French Grove church on Tuesday evening June 2. All are invited. The entertainment program includes Song by the French Grove school, Mara Dean Kiddoo piano solo, Betty and Bertha Carter song, Lorothy Kellogg song, Donald Coe violin solo, William Carter song, Phyllis Biederbeck reading, Robah and Gertrude Kellogg duet, Orrin Coe solo, and the Coe Brothers quartet.

Will Murdoch, born March 29 1892 at Brimfield, died May 23 after serving in World War I and working at Caterpillar. He married Sarah Cooper of East Peoria in 1937 and was a longtime church and community member in Brimfield. Memorial services were conducted May 26 at the Methodist church with American Legion honors and a taps salute.
