The Shane reunion gathered about 40 relatives at West Park Elmwood. Newly elected officers included President Mrs Harvey Ekena Vice President Marie Norton Secretary Treasurer Mrs Pearl Donnelly and program chair Mrs Arie Norton. Prizes went to the oldest man Joe Hasselbacher and oldest woman Mae Catton. Families attended from Yates City Galesburg Monmouth Brimfield and Elmwood.

Ann Hamilton celebrated her seventh birthday at home on Saturday afternoon inviting schoolmates and turtle friends. Games, punch, candy, ice cream, and a decorated cake followed. Carl Ekena Funeral Held for Local Resident

Carl Frederick Ekena longtime Brimfield resident died after a long illness at St Francis hospital. Funeral services were held Monday July 26 at St Pauls Lutheran Church with Pastor Bez Howard Welch officiating. Burial followed at Swan Lake Cemetery. Born March 29 1876 in Germany he came to America at eight and married Elisabeth Broninga in 1902. He farmed locally and later retired to Brimfield. Survived by wife four sons Clarence Harvey Barry Arthur two daughters Frances Phillips Lenora Miler and 14 grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Ray Derby dies after 48 years with Burlington Railroad

Ray Derby of 130 Division Street Galesburg died early Sunday in Peoria State hospital after a long illness. Born February 10, 1877, he lived in Galesburg 33 years and Quincy 15 years. Retired in 1946 as Burlington Railroad conductor after 48 years of service. Survived by wife Ulive Anna Derby, two sisters Zelia Layne and Miss George Corry, one grandchild and four great grandchildren. Funeral at Kimber and West Chapel with Rev F W Jolly. burial in Grimfield cemetery.
