A Brimfield group rode Eagle Motor Coach to the Chicago fair for a Day-at event. Clifford Cady led the 4 PM departure with plans to return around 8 PM. round trip fare was 2.25. Many Brimfield residents joined the trip, with more to be scheduled on full loads. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nelson of Monmouth visited H Cady home. Mrs Nelson of Abingdon to stay with daughter Mrs B C Cady.
The community was shocked by the sudden death of Pearl Hamilton elder daughter of Frea Hamilton. Her father and sister found her lifeless on their return from a country visit. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church on Friday at 2 30.
A Civilian Conservation Corps camp was established on the George A. Lawence farm south of Elmwood last Friday. The Jefferson Barracks unit includes two army officers, a medical officer, three enlisted men, and 141 CCC workers under Captain John M. Lentz and Lieutenant Donald C Adams. They will build dams and diversion ditches to curb runoff and soil loss as part of the erosion program.
Maxine Lyons, known as Mrs. Worchester during her tenure at the San Angelo sanatorium, visits friends in the area with Rev. Edward Worchester and his wife. The visit follows a Chicago world’s fair run, with neighbors sharing news of local events and birthday gatherings.
W E Carter cultivates with a new Farmall while Mrs C L McClellan and Will serve as carriers at Oak Lawn. Mrs Mollie Day and daughter Leona visited at C L McClellan's. Cora Lee Kinley of Topeka Kansas stays several days at the W M Carter home. W M Carter and Mrs Jackson Reed were among Peoria callers Friday afternoon. S W Kidder of Peoria, recently back from the west coast, visited Friday with W M Carter. Hubert Oakes Roth Ano and S A Kellogg with Gertrude and William visited Princeville and Dunlap Thursday. J W Whisen of Peoria and Clyde McMillan of Chillicothe joined S A Kellogg’s stock ring tally on their 4-H tour Friday. Edward Worchester of San Angelo Texas visited Monday with former friends of Mrs Worchester nee Maxine Lyons. They are on a wedding trip including the Century of Progress before returning to Texas. Robbie Doubet celebrated his 8th birthday last Wednesday with Frederick Johnson spending the day on the farm. Harold Hulse drove from Bloomington Sunday to visit the George Sollenberger family, accompanied home by Susan Sollenberger spending this week with them.
Mrs Louisa Humphries Tully Joy died July 2 1933 after a two week illness at her son Henry P. Tully’s Brimfield home. Born March 2 1834 in New Orleans she became wife of Phillip F. Tully and later of Robert Joy. She leaves son Henry P. Tully step son George L. Tully of Wichita and many friends. Funeral services were held July 4 at the Union Church with Rev R W Newell officiating. Interment followed in Brimfield cemetery.
Laura Items notes Peoria shoppers Laura and Neva Riel plus Mrs Reed and Mrs Sere visiting and hosting across Peoria and Elmwood areas. Several dinners and social gatherings are listed including visits by the Miller, Travis, Gilliott, Bill, Whittaker, Moore, King, Smith, Miller, and Jones families with friends and relatives at homes in Toluca, Amboy, Roanoke, Elmwood, West Jersey, and nearby towns during the weekend.
Local notes report Ray Goudy, CCC member, left for Battle Creek camp in Michigan last Wednesday. Families and friends from Wyoming, Kewanee, Peoria, Chillicothe and New York visit Miss Mary Clark and share picnics, while a license-less Oldsmobile prompts action by Peoria officers. Gary Indiana celebrates a golden anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. De Bra, and Stewart Campbell sails from the region, visiting England via a steamer trip arranged by Charles Cutter.
Village Council members voted to halve their salaries at the Monday meeting. The action, praised as a step toward tax relief, demonstrates a willingness to accept reduced pay as part of a broader cost-cutting effort.
The county will not publish the assessor’s list this year. Only a few neighboring counties have done so. Residents must view the assessor's books to search assessable values and make comparisons. County officers aim to save taxpayer expense, including the treasurer De Weid.

Mr and Mrs R J Brimbiecom visited at Ben Conner's in Peoria Sunday. Toney Appley of Prince villte spent Sunday at Earl Mitchells. Harold Alfords, Wm Camp Jr., and R Brimble com spent Thursday in Peoria. Vivian and Silda Conover visit sister Naomi in Chicago and attend the fair. O Waldron of Monmouth staying with his parents Emery Waldron. John Armstrong and daughter returned from Chicago after four days at the World Fair. Charles La Rue and Emmett Duffy returned after several days in Terre Haute. Mary Shank came home to spend the summer.
Elwood Kelley and family visited relatives for the Fourth of July. They were accompanied home by Mrs. W. E. Kelley and children Billy and Donald Gilroy, who had been their guests for several weeks.
The Notzke Bros. reported the loss of 1000 bushels of corn and 10 tons of hay stored in a barn on the old Kehl farm when a Sunday morning lightning storm struck the building. Mr and Mrs Orville Miller and children drove from Philo for a few days visit with Hugh Miller and Frank Hamilton. They left Earl Roy and Dorothy for a longer visit with their grandparents, returning Wednesday.
The village council states its purpose is to enforce the ordinance against running cars trucks and motorcycles with cut outs. It does not wish to arrest or fine violators and asks for cooperative support from motorists. With cooperation, more severe measures will be avoided.
