Village announces driving ban on streets and sidewalks

Village ordinance prohibits driving any motor vehicle on streets or sidewalks. Village officials request cooperation of residents and agents to observe the rule. Vehicles including trucks cars and tractors damage walks and incur expenses. By Order of Street Committee Village Board.

Brimfield Tops Dunlap Tourney Opener in Wild Scoring Spree

Brimfield opened the Dunlap tournament with an easy win as Reinhart 14, L Johnson 11, Cluskey 9, F Johnson 4 and Doubst 1 powered Brimfield to 39 while Fayette managed 22. Princeville defeated Elmwood 22-21 in a tight game, with F Johnson and McDonough scoring 6 each. Glasford beat Pekin junior varsity 35-28 to set up a battle for third and Princeville and Glasford claimed first and second trophies respectively.

More Good Books Needed For Army Camps

A community drive asks residents to donate good readable books for army camps and stations. A visiting committee will call Friday to collect one book or many, with emphasis on current fiction mystery adventure classics and science and engineering titles. Books will support recreation and self improvement at six Illinois camps and at Red Cross hospital units and recreation lodges.

Mrs. Albert McKown dies after brief illness in Elmwood

Mrs. Albert McKown died at 12 30 p m Friday in Methodist hospital Peoria after a ten day illness. Born September 6 1878 in Rosefield township she married Albert McKown in 1896 and lived near Elmwood 46 years. Survived by husband eight daughters Myrtle Reed Velma McMahon Lula Burenam Faye Cowley Ethel Patterson Gale Forney Dorothy Jean McKown two sons Leo Brimfield Wildon Yates City Lloyd deceased 1940 two sisters Fiona Sehaader Bradford Edith Webber and two brothers Orville Mervin Webber. Peoria Woman Killed In Route 78 Accident

Mrs. Effa Montgomery died en route to hospital after a car crash north of Peoria near the Wm. Carter place on Route 78 at about seven Monday evening. Her daughter Mrs. Ruth Mitchell was seriously injured. They lived at 700 N Madison. The trio had been visiting Olive Brown at Laura when returning home. the car left the pavement and was nearly demolished.

Plan Starts Saturday With Early School Closure

The plan begins this coming Saturday January 31 with classes from 8 30 am to 1 40 pm. The early closing will shorten the school year by about two weeks freeing students to help cultivate the corn.
