Burlington Bus Seeks Route Expansion to Peoria

The Burlington Transportation Company requests approval from the Illinois Commerce Commission to operate between Elmwood and Peoria via Southport Oak Hill Edwards and Pottstown. A gravel road exists now but service likely awaits completion of the new hard road under construction. current service runs on No. 8, and farming duties are not allowed.

Boy Scouts reach majority celebrate week of Feb 8

The Boy Scout Movement is reaching its majority this year and will be celebrated the week of February 8. Since 1910, 4,491,088 Scouts have been registered in schooling for character and citizenship. Notable leaders and presidents have been involved, and the program emphasizes outdoor adventure, health, and character, with rank progress from Tenderfoot to Eagle. Crewe Cover Council Boy Scouts of America covers Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, and Marshall Counties with headquarters at Peoria. Scout Executive is C. V. Hines, with Ray W. Fogg and A. L. Ohlman as key aides. The Women’s Society of the Union Church will meet February 12 at Mrs. H. O. Cady’s home.

Dr Welsh Car Theft Reported In Knoxville Ave Incident

Between eight and nine o'clock Friday evening a person helped themselves to Dr J E Welsh's new Ford parked in front of his residence on Knoxville Ave. Several valuable articles including the medicine case were taken. The alarm was given but the car was found Saturday afternoon on a South side Peoria street with a speedometer reading about 240 miles and evidence of hard wear. The medicine case was missing. instruments stored inside remained.

Valentine Party at M. E. Church Saturday

A Valentine Party and box supper will be held at the M E Church Saturday evening February 7 at 7 0 p m. Everyone is invited and asked to bring a plain box with snack for two. Numbers will be sold for thirty cents and used to pair partners for games and stunts. Hot cocoa and lunch will be served. Families with small children should bring a lunch for them.

Jubilee College Grounds to be Sold for Heirs of Bishop Chase

The grounds and buildings of Jubilee College near Kickapoo will be sold at public partition to benefit the heirs of Bishop Philander Chase. A court judge ordered the sale after a suit over ownership, with commissioners to appraise the property and a public sale date to be set. Jubilee College, founded in 1840 as a seminary for ministers, closed in 193, leaving the historic campus idle except the chapel.

B H S Third in County Tournament at Dunlap Gym

B H S finished third in the county tournament played in the new Dunlap gym last week. Dunlap were second and Chili fifth. Games were fast and close with low scores. Glasford High received the sportsmanship banner. Glasford lost opening game to Dunlap then to Chili cothe, but beat Elmwood and Princeville Que.

Couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary

Mr and Mrs Frank Claypool celebrated the 50th anniversary of their marriage on February 5th. The elderly couple have resided in the locality for many years. Mr Claypool says he has been a News subscriber for 50 years, paying his dues for the editor.

Farmhouse Blaze Sparks from Chimney Damage Minor

A reef fire on Wednesday sparked from the chimney and lodged in the kitchen roof at the farmhouse of Earle Colles. Passers by spotted the blaze and quickly extinguished it. damage reported as slight and covered by insurance.
