Peoria County Home Bureau Plans February Membership Drive

Mrs Charles Hailer vice president leads a county plan for February 8 to 13 with twenty home visits per unit to invite nonmembers. New members introduced at Elmwood Play Day February 17. county committee honors units meeting calls. Christie Hepler aids as fulltime Home Adviser while Illinos hosts 47 bureaus and about 15000 members statewide. Peoria County has added 32 members since July.

Blundy Schelkopf Wed In St Josephs Church

Bernice Blundy and Leo Schelkopf married at 7 30 Saturday morning February 6 1937 in St Josephs church Bernice wore brown crepe with green accents and was attended by her sister Anne Brandy. Leo's brother Franklin Schelkopf attended him. Rev Thomas C Harrison officiated with Ave Maria sung by Mrs Bede Fairfield. The couple left for a motor trip to Kansas and Nebraska then plan to live on a Brimfield area farm.

Brimfield Drops Tight Local Floor Games

Brimfield loses two tight contests as Dunlap leads scoring in an 11-8 opener and a 19-17 second game. Stan Cady tops Brimfield with a minor share of points while Dunlap dominates late in the first clash. The Hogs stumble to a 25-73 OT loss to Yates City, final score 27-26, and the second team secures a win.

Roark Whittaker Wed In Toulon Parsonage

Miss E Roark of Wyoming and Robert E Whittaker of Laura were united in marriage at the Toulon Methodist parsonage on February 2 1937. Rev Roy W Stocking officiated, with Mary DeFord Elmwood and Lester H Morrell Toulon as attendants. The couple plans to reside on a farm near Laura.

Mary Ellen Rynearson Funeral Held in Local Parlor

Mrs Mary Ellen Rynearson died in Chicago on a Saturday and funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Johnson Funeral Parlor with burial at Oak Hill cemetery. Born December 13 1883 in Farmington Illinois she was daughter of Frank and Ella Taylor reared by her aunt Ellen Coon. She married William Rynearson June 30 1897 he died July 7 1936. Survived by ten children Forrest Alfred Harley Rozella and others, thirteen grandchildren, a brother Roy Taylor, and a sister Sadie Baynes.The list of survivors includes residents of Hanna City Oak Hill Arizona California Chicago and Farmington.

Regional basketball pairings announced for IHSA district meet

The Illinois High School Athletic Association released first round pairings for the district basketball tournaments starting March 3. Brimfield draws Elmwood with Wyoming facing Brimfield, alongside Peoria Manual vs Yates City, Peoria Kingman vs Princeville, and Dunlap vs Elmwood, with Toulon on a bye. The lineup promises a tough regional, but a Brimfield run toward the regional finals is possible if luck holds.

Fires destroy Main Street businesses and church in hours

The directory lists Rev. J Ferguson at the Methodist church Rev. E W Jenney at the national Rev A C Edwards at the Baptist and Rev A Belanger at St Josephs. Several Main Street businesses including Whitney hardware D Herver Co dry goods and groceries F F Camp general store Robinson Co salting store were wiped out. The Baptist church north of the brick block was destroyed and Daniel Pyle lived behind the post office with goods saved. The second floor housed a tin shop club room store room and offices of Dr George C Corcoran and dentist Measler. Notices indicate when the Exchange Bank run by DH Berger will resume operations.

Correction issued on farm soil conser­vation claim

The newsletter acknowledges an error in quoting Lee M. Gentry about imported clover and alfalfa seed. The term should read adapted, altering the meaning of the statement. The Farm Bureau issues this correction to prevent misleading farm readers on the soil conservation program.

Flood Relief Donations Totals From Local Helpers

A mixed list of contributions totaling various amounts is presented from community groups and individuals including Lutheran Ladies Aid, Union Church and numerous residents such as Henry Reinhart, Mrs Etta Guyer, Miss Minnie Murdock, Mr and Mrs Arthur Winkler, John Gerber, Bernadette Flynn, and J C Gibbs. The list shows amounts ranging from 43 39 to 600, collected for flood relief efforts this week.

County Legion Hosts County Meeting Next Week

On Wednesday evening February 17 the local American Legion post hosts the county organization meeting. Schmeiser, a German army veteran, will give the principal address and local musicians will provide numbers. German war veterans who are now naturalized citizens will attend.
