Telephone Company Seeks Larger Rate Hike in Illinois
General Telephone Company of Illinois filed for a rehearing with the Illinois Commerce Commission over its March 1982 request for local rate increases. The company sought 1.932 million dollars annually, but was granted only 458 thousand. Taxes absorb most of the increase, leaving a small net for the company. President Burton W. Saunders said the approved raise is insufficient for a fair return and to support ongoing expansion, threatening future service improvements.
