Eureka Mutual Elects 1954 Officers

Marty B. Mulvaney was reelected president of Eureka Mutual Farm era Fire and Lightning Insurance Company at the 16th annual policyholders meeting in the American Legion Building January 6. The company, incorporated in 1871, covers over 2.6 million dollars of property in Brimfield and nearby towns in Peoria and Knox County. Directors are Clinton L Day, Dan Meay, Charles Wolf era Martin, Leo Schelkopf and Arthur Kena. Wm S. Clark is vice president and W. Porter treasurer.

Laura Items Thomas Riggen is a patient at St Marys hospital in Galesburg. Mrs Greta Strickland of Dunlap spent the weekend at her home here. Robert Doty of Eureka College spent several days at the Henry Kruskop home. Mr and Mrs Gerald Webster of near Kewanee visited at the Don Webster home Sunday. Miss Marianne Moore of Monmouth College spent the week with her mother Ruth Moore. Mr and Mrs James Kemper spent Sunday in Peoria with Mrs Marile Rowe and Paul Kemper. Sandra Miller of Brimfield spent Sunday with her grandparents Thomas and Mrs Miller. Miss Hartley Hing of St Paul Minnesota visited her grandmother Nellie Minor the past week. Mr oddies Merle Berme and child ren of Galesburg spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs Dannah Beamer and Mrs Eq Kaib. Mrs Thomas Miller and Jom Manock drove to Rock Island to see Kusie Wade Bundy improving at her home after being confined to the hospital three weeks from stroke.

Heart Fund Drive Seeks Local Contributions

Mra Russell Taylor directs the Heart Fund Drive in the area. Valentines priced at 25 cents aid the fund, available from firs Frank Clark. Plastic hearts are in business houses for donations, or checks may be mailed to Mra Taylor. Donations may be deducted for income tax purposes.

Ernest Jones, Galva resident, dies in Kewanee hospital

Ernest Jones, longtime Galva resident and member of Brimfield’s pioneer Jones family, died Tuesday morning at Kewanee Public hospital after admission Sunday evening. Born April 3, 1881 in Galva, he lived all his life with sister Rosebud. A talented clarinetist, he played with several musical groups. Surviving are his sister, nieces and nephews. parents and two brothers preceded him in death. Burial is at Galva cemetery after funeral at the Johnson and Gil Chapel in Galva.

Mrs Clara Reed Day dies in San Bernardino

Mrs Clara Reed Day died suddenly Jan 30 in San Bernardino California where she had resided for some time. Burial will be in Bimfield Cemetery with the time to be announced later by Taylor Funeral Home.

French Grove residents hosted visitors including Mr and Mrs Tom Shaffer and Mr and Mrs Larry Shaw. John Shaffer attends Farm and Home Week in Urbana while Wallace Harris and family visited. The French Grove Improvement Society met at Dorothy Armstrong’s home with Mrs Ruth Shaw presiding. Lois Kellogg led devotionals on Jesus the Good Shepherd. Nominating committee proposed officers for unanimous election: Lydia Pucell president Verne Shaffer vice president Lois Kellogg secretary treasurer Louella Carter. A social hour featured music by Lois Kellogg and Bobby Armstrong with refreshments served to local families.

Brimfield Man Walter Goudy Dies at 64 at Local Station

Walter Ray Goudy age 64 longtime Brimfield resident died suddenly Monday evening while working at his filling station. Born January 7 1890 he was a World War I veteran and charter member of Post 45 American Legion. Funeral services were held at Taylor Funeral Home with military graveside rites in Brimfield cemetery. Survivors include brother Clifford and sister Mrs Jennie Gibbs of Clio Iowa. Pallbearers listed.
