Brimfield Wins Grade Tournament in Narrow Finals

Brimfield classed team captures first place in a tense tournament at Wilderwaite defeating Glasford 52 51 in overtime then beating Laura 45 43 after another OT. Semifinals saw a 35 34 win over Princeylic and 37 32 loss to Gagner Jollowen. Jerry Pillman led with 20 points. Rome’s lightweights fell 23 22 while Whe hearsweights won 61 19 with Aabley 12 points. The last regular game and sectional tourney at Morton begin November 18 with Rome as draft opponent.

Miss Ellen Drysdale Funeral Held in Peoria

Miss Ellen Drysdale of Peoria, born March 27 1891, died after collapsing on her driveway Sunday night. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church with interment in Springdale cemetery. She taught home economics in Peoria schools for 38 years before retiring in 1931. Survived by an aunt Mrs Rynearson of Peoria, an uncle Eugene Ryneardon of Dallas, and nieces and nephews.

Princeville narrowly defeats Brimfield in tense late rally

In a Knox County Tournament clash Princeville rallied to beat Brimfield 51 to 50 after trailing by nine at halftime and by ten entering the third. Cecil scored 19 for Princeville while Gary Feucht added 15. Brimfield led by as many as nine but faded as Princeville surged with sharp passing and strong defense.

Mrs Myrtle Whittaker of Laura died at Kewanee Public Hospital on Monday after ten days as a patient. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the Methodist church in Laura and burial was in Princeville cemetery. She leaves one son John Whittaker and three grandchildren. Her husband was killed in a car accident on August 6, 1948.

Frank Wing obituary chronicles decades of cartooning work

Frank Wing of Minneapolis died on a Wednesday in January in Minneapolis at age 82. Born in Emwood he moved to Minneapolis at the turn of the century and built a long career as staff artist for the Journal and The Union in Minneapolis, the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch, the Chicago Tribune, the Des Moines Register and Tribune syndicate. His Yesterdays ran in the Journal from 1911 to 1937 and were republished in 1946. He authored books including The Photographic Album and The Family Album. He retired in October from Art Institution Inc where he led cartooning and illustrating. He is survived by his wife, two sons, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. The Wing farm in town remains in use by Walter Tucker. Private graveside services were held at Elmwood Cemetery.
