Post Office Mail Closes Early for Christmas 1939

Christmas mail volume leads to earlier closing times at the post office. Mail must be in by 10:30 a.m. for morning dispatch and 1:00 p.m. for afternoon dispatch from December 16 to 23, 1939. Frank W. Clark Postmaster.

Townsend Meeting and Club Formation Notes

December Townsend meeting praised Dr Townsend for reframing old age pensions as part of a sound economy. A Townsend Club is planned in Brimfelé with thirteen members already committed and Mrs Mimmie Tenoery serving as temporary secretary and treasurer of the club.

Millbrook Grange Hosts Oyster Stew and Gift Exchange

At the next regular meeting on December 26 Millbrook Grange members cook and serve an oyster stew. A program and a 10 cent gift exchange follow the ladies exchange gifts and the men do likewise. The third card party will be the Zist.

Band Lessons Tuesday Schedule Change

A note indicates Band Lessons and Begrover's Lessons will occur on Tuesday January 2 in the afternoon instead of Friday of that week, adjusting the usual schedule.

Brimfield Tops Elmwood In Exciting Game

Brimfield defeated Elmwood 47 to 23 Friday night before a large crowd. Dungan and Luthy led with 19 points each as Elmwood never recovered after a 12-12 early tie. Welsh added 6, Shaffer Endres 2, with Cahill, McDonough, Savage and Fisher contributing. Brimfield improves to 2 wins 1 loss in the Kexapou Conference.

Peoria Farmers Profit From Wheat Loan Advantage

French Gove Jack Telchers out of school last week with tonsillitis. Dr. and Vere McCormick of Bloomington were visitors at Stanton Moore's. Mrs. Lane Clark and Mr. and Mrs. R. Clark plan to Missouri for the holiday with relatives. C. B. Walker, father of Mrs. Fairy Carter, died at home last Saturday night in Canton. The neighbors extend sympathy to Mrs. Carter and family. The local school hosts a Christmas program at the schoolhouse Friday night after a pot luck supper at 8:30. The Improvement Society plans a holiday party Thursday night, December 28 at the McClellan home with supper, gift exchange, and committee entertainment. Eleven little girls helped Mary Lou Carter celebrate her 8th birthday last Saturday at her home with games and refreshments. Loren Oates of New York City and Andy Olson of Washington, DC spent the weekend with Loren's parents. Monday they began a westward trip, with stops in Omaha, Lyon Valley, Idaho, El Paso, and Joe, New Mexico, ending with a visit to Dr. Harold Oakes.

Shane District Christmas Program Set For Friday Night

Shane District Herman Somth and family visited the Meury Smith residence on Sunday. W Bennett and family and Mrs. Timmerman were in Peoria Christmas shopping on Saturday. Mrs Timmerman from Peoria visits with her daughter Mrs. Sam Pallister and family. Mrs Geory Kelateadt and son Clarence and Mrs. Sam Pallistis and daughter Violet were in Peoria Monday. The Shane District Christmas program is scheduled for beat Friday night at 7 30 with only the school children entertaining.

Golden Wedding Celebrated Sunday By Laura Citizens

Emma V Reed and Robert P Carter will mark their Golden Wedding on Christmas Day 1939? The note says 50 years after 1889, with family honorees Harold Gelvin and Reed Carter. They lived in Lacra, earlier Touton, retired from farming, now host a family celebration at the bride’s parents home in French Grove.

Vesper Concert At Union Church Sunday Afternoon
