Enoch Emery of the Peorin Transcrypt sues the Peorin Evening Journal for 35000 in damages claiming libel. He also seeks 5000 from Dowdall of the Democrat and 5000 from the Journal, saying the repeated claims are becoming monotonous and burdensome.

Mr B K Werrington has carpenters at work raising the north end of this residence and, when finished, will raise the south building. The completed structure will be 26 by 40 feet with 20 foot posts and ten foot rooms on the lower story and nine foot rooms on the second. Besides the hall and stairway there are four rooms on the first floor and five on the second. Carpenter work is by Mr Ryle.

Stevens, poems read, flag planting, and a reunion planned for Decoration Day evening. Committees named for supper, flowers, and arrangements. Local town features include railroad talks, marble tombstone venture, and cheese plant prospects. May 1878.

A temperance lecture series by Prof Eugene Warren travels to Blair’s schoolhouse. A birthday gathering at Isaac Stowell’s and a lively treat at Squire Stowell’s highlight community life.
A stranger visited and spoke on Phrenology, presenting masterful explanations and inviting audience questions. The first night traced the origin of Phrenology about a century ago and its discovery, pleasing about 75 listeners. prizes for best features were awarded to A. M. for looks and Abe B. for a long nose, amid applause.
A garbled scrape shows a Chicago Tribune style mix of vendors touting prices and goods, with claims of cheaper dry goods, cloaks, and a dramatic barbed note about Mollie Maguire. Mentions include Norrington Horger & Co and Cowles stands, plus odd lines about a nine year old checker champion and generals.
Lot owners are ordered to clean alleys at the rear of their lots or face no further notice. The message is from J. W. Sittowar, President of Council, in Eureka Nevada. The ad then switches to multiple commercial notices and fashion goods from local merchants including Best Fall Wheat Flour and Minnesota Spring Wheat Flour prices, clothing from Hayes Brothers, and a satirical note about hats and mob talk in the town.
