London October 23 The government steps up precautions as a general strike by railway workers and dockers in sympathy with coal miners looms. Talks planned with Federation of Miners aim to avert a nationwide walkout of over a million workers. Officials brace for possible train, mine, and coastwise shipping disruption with troops and air support ready.
Agents traced fraudulent government labels to Hawleyville where Ignatz Kellar kept 21 barrels of home brewed hooch. Danbury prohibition enforcers arrested Kellar as 21 barrels were confiscated. In Bridgeport, Dave Wichinsky’s saloon yielded liquor bottles with counterfeit labels and he was jailed without bonds. The probe aims to crack a wider bootlegging network across the state.
Mike Rapko of 202 Wiltara street faced City court after an alleged insult to George Rakowel on Viatlam street. Judge Bartlett fined Rapko ten dollars plus costs and suspended a three month jail sentence for the incident and family affairs reference.
Vincent Mor, a Newsboy from Siiman Street, was hit by a milk truck on Den Company while peddling papers at 6 30 this morning. He suffered a concussion and was treated at Emergency hospital before being discharged home. Condition described as serious. No arrest made.
Hazel Kane, 10, of 536 Lafayette Street, was mauled by three dogs while walking with crutches on Hazel Street. She suffered facial abrasions and a deep bite to the left arm before three men rescued her and sent her to Emergency Hospital for treatment. The dogs' owner could not be learned and authorities will try to locate him.
The T A Scott Wrecking Company began raising a government concrete barge sunk about a mile off the breakwater while carrying pig iron. Salvage operations aim to recover the cargo and the vessel.
Frank Engello of 753 Pembroke street was fined $100 and costs in City Court after pleading guilty to carrying a concealed weapon. Police said Mary Marnell reported Engello threatened to kill her after informing her of moving from 753 Pembroke to 4650 Pequonnock street. Engello was found with a long knife and a revolver when apprehended by Officer Collins at the second precinct station survey. He paid the fine in court.
Edwin Polack of 142 Main street was jailed after a collision at State street and Fairfield avenue involving two other cars driven by Joseph Kinnpar and Frank J. Grover. Police accuse Polack of reckless driving on the wrong side at about 30 mph. He awaits arraignment as traffic investigators proceed.
A noon gathering of the Connecticut Alliance of Democratic Women convened at a high school. Miss Caroline Tiuntz-Rees presided as reports from the president, secretary Mrs Ella Sealy Newell of Greenwich, and treasurer Mrs Lawrence Morganovitch of Westport were read. A luncheon followed in the school restaurant.

Ira Anderson, a colored man, was wounded when he shot and killed Venerable Williams in Norwalk after a dispute over a crap game. Anderson may attend the Williams death inquest as he recovers at Norwalk hospital. the clash followed a Stamford craps game in which Williams and others lost $100.
Abu Rossi of 44 Hamilton Street arrested on Barnum avenue for striking M G Liscomb of 330 Maple Street with an iron bar. Liscomb suffered a head wound and was treated at Emergency Hospital by Dr B J Coyle. Rossi, a Siemon Hard Rubber plant picket, was released on $500 bond and to be arraigned in City Court Monday morning.
