Noted Writer Edward Porritt Ends Life at Sea

Queenstown Ireland Oct 10 A passenger on the steamer Enlle, Edward Porritt journalist of Hartford Conn, leaped overboard in the cabin promenade amid nervous breakdowns and failed to be found. Porritt, born December 1860 in England, had a long career at Guardian Echo Daily Mail Times and wrote extensively on politics and empire. He and his wife Mrs Arnie G Porritt lived at 659 Asylum Avenue Farmington New York.

Girls Will Go On Stand In Ohio Murder Trial

In Cleveland on October 10 Marilon McArdle, 20, faced trial for first degree murder in the death of her stepfather Daniel Kater and was set to testify in her own defense. The defense planned to call Salvatore Cala, serving a life sentence for Kater’s murder, to rebut Emma Colavito’s testimony. Cala, who confessed to holding Kater while Vittoria Misselli stabbed him, is questioned over a purported plan to admit Cala and Misselli to the Kater home the night of the crime. Miss McArdle’s mother Eva Catherine Kaher, serving a life sentence, would not testify from Marysville reform school. Closing arguments were expected soon, with character witnesses to follow.
