Robert Gouble formerly of 278 East Main Street died Sunday after being stricken with an apoplexy Saturday evening while at the Katz Turkish baths on Pembroke Street. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital and passed away yesterday afternoon awaiting relatives' arrival for burial.
All New York hotel men gathered for the opening of the twentieth annual exposition at the Central Palace in Grand New York. The hotel show marks the 36th annual convention with plans for tomorrow’s activities and exhibits statewide.

Washington November 20 with the opening of the 67th Congress the new session begins a lengthy period of political clashes likely to shape the 1924 campaign. Democrats plan an organized assault on the Ship Subsidy Bill aided by Republican insurgents as Harding faces unified opposition from the minority. The Senate will adjourn in respect for late Senator Watson and House for Representative Nolan. Mrs. Felton appears on the Senate floor as the first woman senator escorted by Hoke Smith.
St Louis reports a two day meeting of the National Association opposed to the prohibition amendment. Delegates predicted the liquor question would dominate the 1924 campaign and denied plans for a third major party. The group aims to place wet planks in Democratic and Republican platforms and leverage balance of power against the Anti Saloon League. William L Fish noted the issue would drive the next general election.
Small boys believed responsible for a break in this morning as they forced a rear door to access a safe and scattered papers across the floor. No valuable items were taken.
Five Chinese pirates seized the 1267 ton stern wheel ship Salan after a 12 hour standoff near the Canton river. A fierce battle left two pirates dead and several wounded, including the captain and a French priest. The ship looted moved toward Swatow before European gunfire repelled the pirates and the crew regained control near Hong Kong.

Attorney Clarence R. Hall, an expert on city government forms, was tentatively named secretary of the Charter Revision commission. He would be paid 150 dollars monthly plus expenses from a 34 000 appropriation. The selection followed a council hearing as Mayor Atwater and Alderman Beers proposed Hall and Dunigan respectively, Dunigan failing to secure support.
London reports the newly elected House of Commons opened and re elected James H. Whitley as speaker after members took oaths. Deliberations begin after the king’s speech at the state opening. Norwalk Conn Nov 20 Mr and Mrs Max Sanroth of 54 Ellsworth avenue New Haven were injured and taken to hospital after their car rolled over on Westport avenue hill known as mortuary turn. Guests Morris Gordon and his wife and their infant son Gordon Sunroth were pinned and rescued by ladder. Burns kill child at Ansonia fire scene Marie Gateman four died at Griffin hospital from burns suffered while playing near fire.
Calexico Calif Nov 20 Eighty two dead believed in sinking of Mexican freight and passenger steamer in Gulf of California near La Bomba. Of 103 aboard 21 rescued. effort to recover bodies ongoing. Ship under contract to A Liern of Calexico.
James Nichols, believed from Avon Park area, is sought after a Stratford avenue and Connecticut avenue crash last night. A car, allegedly Nichols driven, struck a traffic stanchion, skidded onto the sidewalk and overturned. J D Keller and H I Berger rescued three men, raced to Bridgeport hospital. Nichols disappeared en route. Two other men were arrested on drunkenness and breach of peace charges. A revolver found in Keller’s car was turned to police. Dominick Golia and Joseph Trimzoli were held on bonds.
The Board of Police Commissioners ordered 13 brand new green motorcycles which arrived Saturday and underwent a test run. Captain Walker praised them as “just dandy” after yesterday’s trial.
San Francisco Nov 29 advices from Honolulu rebut rumors of a South American origin claiming Haawaii was badly damaged by an earthquake. Radio Hawaii station and Hilo officials reported no unusual activity after midnight and no disaster.
Thomas Russell of New Haven was arraigned after being accused of striking Miss Mary A. McPadden of 620 Brooks Street on October 4 and fleeing the scene. He was fined 100 dollars and costs and sentenced to ten days in jail, with a $500 bond on appeal. Russell denies the accident but was positively identified by two witnesses as the driver of the car, Emerson.
Garry Paddock and James J. Gormaley filed campaign statements with the town clerk. Paddock reported 286 dollars for Second precinct activities, including workers and refreshments, while Gormaley listed 214 dollars. Seventh district treasurer Dr William II Ty an spent 240 dollars on workers, with five dollars for campaign costs. Mayor John H. McMurray, who was defeated, spent 50 dollars in his bid. The notes indicate total sums donated to the Democratic campaign fund.
