Smits Store and the Missing Grocery List
A narrator recalls a chaotic shopping trip to Smits store with Puds Simkins. Confusion over what to buy leads to miscommunications about bread, potatoes, chops, or cans. A grown woman scolds as the boy bids to swap items with Artie, bargaining over glass agate and commons while staying up late and waking to odd bargains.
