Opinions Differ On Petitions To Retain Tax Commissioner
petitions circulated in all five city houses yesterday afternoon asked for Arthur Sennor to remain tax commissioner. President Samuel Dawe of the Board of Fire Commissioners defended the action stating no fire department rules were violated. Dawe admitted distributing the petitions to Chief Daniel Johnson as a favor to a Taxpayers League member who requested it. Johnson said there was no restriction and the petitions were simply left at firemen's houses for them to act as they chose. The practice was described as common citywide. no evidence any were sent to police. Johnson dissociated from it.
