Trolley union discusses compromise on wage scale
At Musicians' hall last night the local trolley men's union reviewed the company wage proposal. John J. Toohey explained a sliding scale from 69 to 75 cents for one man car operators and 54 to 60 cents for motormen and conductors, up from 44 to 50 cents. No decision was reached, though both sides anticipate a compromise without a strike as the company argues higher pay is unaffordable.

Germans Failed To Stamp Their Culture On Turk
Constantinople June 2 The Germans failed to stamp their culture on the Turk and English is rising in Levant commerce. German language schools once taught by German officers failed to attract the better class as French dominated trade and social life. Since the armistice Italians promote their tongue though poorly attended. Turkish is little used in commerce as French prevails. English grows with American traders and relief workers. Robert College and Constantinople College for Women advance English education. The YMCA and YWCA now offer day and night English classes.
